The Ten Commandments

This is the Moral Code for life, given by God to Moses in 1462 B.C. at Mt. Sinai after the Hebrew people had escape from Egypt.

Everyone on earth, whether they like it or not, or know it or not, is subject to this Law and will one day have to answer to God for their lives in relation to this Law.

Have you ever broken one or more of these ten commandments?

  • You shall have no other God's before me.
  • You shall not make idols for worship
  • You shall not take the name of God in vain
  • Remember the Sabbath to keep it holy
  • Honour your Father and your Mother
  • You shall not kill
  • You shall not commit adultery
  • You shall not steal
  • You shall not lie
  • You shall not covet what others have.

If you have broken any of these you are subject to God's penalty, which is spiritual death and separation from God forever. In others words you go to Hell when you die.

That is why Jesus came to earth to die and pay the penalty for your sin that you should have paid.

By believing in Jesus Christ and what He has done and repenting of your sin, you can have eternal life - and even fullness of life here on earth. That is what this whole book is about.

But unless you know you are under the penalty of God's law, you will not want to believe. Check yourself out.

Which of these commandments have you broken.

Go to chapter 25 of Escape Into Life to see what to do about it.

Chapter 26

Next Steps

When you have taken all these steps, you are a child of the only true and living God. You have been born into a huge family of believers around the world. You have a new birth into your new life. You now have the first stages of the fullness of life that Jesus offers. This new life from God will benefit your body, soul and spirit.

Many new things can now happen in your life. From now on you and God have a partnership into which you both contribute. The two main things to remember and to do, are to trust God in all the circumstances of your life and be obedient to his word as it is revealed in the bible. It is suggested that you begin to build into your life all of the following things.

  1. Learn to depend on Jesus and his Spirit. See John 14:26. Continue to be in prayer to be continually filled with the Holy Spirit. Remember what is said in Luke 11:11-13. See also Ephesians 5:18.
  2. Take time each day, preferably in the morning, to read your Bible and pray. Treat God as a Father who wants to hear all your desires and concerns.
  3. Find a good church as near as you can to your home. Be prepared to travel a bit if you need to, in order to find a good one. Be attracted by the loving actions of people, not just by what they say. Join a small group in your church to help to learn to grow as a Christian. Every new believer needs lots of fellowship and teaching.
  4. Go to a Christian bookshops and get some study guides and prayer helps. There are many of these available to help new believers.
  5. Realise that you have made the biggest decision of your life and that there is now before you a lifetime of exciting possibilities in God. There are so many things to learn about God's ways of living.
  6. You might like to drop a line to the author to tell him if you have made this step. Write to the publishers, Doreo Zoe at P.O. Box 642 Glen Waverley Victoria. Australia 3150.
  7. Remember that all you have read here is only the beginning stages of the Christian faith. Don't just settle where you are at and not go on with God. God has a plan for every person on earth who is prepared to trust in him and his ways. God bless you. Stay close to him.

Some afterthoughts

Daniel, the daniel who survived the lion's den, once said to his king that

"There is a God in heaven."

This statement by him is the hope of all mankind. If there was not a God in heaven, then mankind would be doomed.

God sent Jesus to confirm that there is a God in heaven and to tell the world what to do in order to get to heaven when death finally comes.

He also sent Jesus to tell us how to live here on earth. The values that Jesus expressed are almost totally opposed to those that man lives by here on earth. Mankind will often give lip service to these values, but is generally unable to perform them. However, by the death and resurrection of Jesus, all men and women, if they decide to commit their lives to Christ, can begin to know fullness of life on earth, and gain eternal life.

There is no circumstance of life which cannot be influenced for you by Jesus, if you can place your faith in him. We all want a better life on earth right here and now. Jesus is the way to it.

Do not be influenced by the world and those in it who accuse believers of being square, boring bible bashers. Jesus has said that those who stand firm in their belief are those that will inherit eternal life in the kingdom of God.

Also, do not be influenced by what looks (in part) to be a poor showing of God's church in the world today. The church has many weaknesses, but God does not. It is God's church and he will prevail, despite the struggles of his people. More important than all the weaknesses, all the hypocrisy and sin within his people, are the eternal truths that stand. Judge God and what he can do by what he says in the bible, not by the struggles of his people on earth. No matter what man does to help or hinder, God will prevail for ever.

Jesus came so that you and I might be saved from eternal death and go to live with him forever. The message of Jesus is the most revolutionary the world has ever seen. It May upset some who think they know better, but others will welcome it. Either way, I hope that you will take advantage of all that he offers and . . .

Escape into life

To finish with - an amazing fact

Isn't it amazing that the world has almost forgotten the most important man that ever lived!

The bible tells of some of the things Jesus did to influence man to live in proper ways. It also tells of the amazing things that he will yet do. Jesus is forever enshrined in our daily life.

The calendar of all history is based on His birth and our two major holiday periods are based on His birth and His death and resurrection. There would be no Christmas or Easter but for Christ.

How can we forget him so easily? He is our past, present and future.

Chapter 24

Getting past man's human reasoning

God's twin gifts of eternal life after death and of fullness of life on earth right now, have one amazing aspect to them. They are free! They are free in the sense that they are not earned and cannot be earned. This aspect of God's provision creates many problems for the logical mind of mankind. After all, most of us believe that there is nothing free in this world. We are all well schooled in assessing the claims of various advertisers who claim to give something for nothing. Of course we know that they never do. There is always a catch somewhere! No one ever gets anything for nothing! You always have to earn it!

It is at this point that many unbelievers get stuck. So if that happens to be where you are right now, then that's O.K. This chapter should get you unstuck. The trouble you are having may be caused by your mind trying to cope with your human way of doing things, by using reasoning and logic. Remember in Chapter 21 we saw how God's ways are so different from the ways we might do things. The answer to this apparent dilemma is quite simple in principle. Talking to believers in Jesus the apostle paul says:

" For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God - not by works, so that no one can boast." (Ephesians 2: 8-9.)

God's grace.

The word grace is the key word. In terms of God, grace means to be kind to someone who doesn't deserve it. It means to give a gift to someone where they have done things which would normally stop the giver from wanting to be nice. Don't we all know that type of situation from our own lives?

The thing that we as human beings have all done is to act sinfully towards God and our fellowman. But by God's grace, he sent Jesus to buy back our lives, so that we all might have eternal life and fullness of life on earth. It is sometimes said that the word grace can be said to stand for God's reward at Christ's expense. A beautiful way of saying that Jesus Christ has done everything needed to save us all from eternal death.

It is important for you to know that God's grace is not just something that unbelievers use to get to know God through Jesus. It is also a major factor in the daily life of every believer in Jesus. We could not do without it! It is only through the grace of God that each of us can come each day, confessing the sins of our lives, knowing that we will be forgiven.

God's love.

God's grace is very much connected with his love. It could be said that God's grace comes from his love. There is a verse in the bible which says that God is love. What this means is that all love comes from God. The Bible in fact says in 1 John 4 :16 :

" And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him."

This verse applies to all believers. Unbelievers need to call upon the grace of God to become believers and receive the fullness of God's love. Then they can apply all parts of the verse to themselves. Read the verse again. The next Chapter shows how to becomes a believer in Jesus Christ and be able to enjoy the love of Christ.

Rising above your reasoning.

You may be on of the fortunate one's who can simply accept what has been said in this book and in the verses of scriptures mentioned. Some readers however will find it hard to get past their mind wanting to argue against all this. What can you then do? After all this issue is the most important one everyone must face in their life sooner or later. So it is worth persevering.

Some suggestions.

  1. Your own will is the one thing that God has given you which you can use to resist or agree with anyone or anything, satan and God included. You can use your will to ride over all the claims of your mind or emotions that would prevent you from acting on this information as you see fit. Use your own will and decide.
  2. You could ask the help of an experienced Christian by getting them to pray for you. Put aside your pride. You have all your life ahead of you to benefit from a right decision.
  3. The B1ble tells us that satan and his demons attempt to blind the minds of unbelievers so that they cannot know and act on these truths. In this case you May need to combine suggestions 1 and 2.
  4. Call upon God to help you. The next paragraphs show how to do this.

Apart from one caution which will be given later in this chapter, it can be definitely said that if you earnestly seek God, you will find him. The Bible is very clear about this. Consider the following verses.

Jesus says that " and will not God bring about justice for His chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off? I tell you, He will see they get justice, and quickly. (Luke l8:7-8)

Jesus also said in luke 11: 9-10: " So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened."

Despite any difficulties you may have, it is worth all the effort you put into seeking God and finding His salvation. One of my sons took a couple of years of reading and searching before he was able to accept the truth of the bible. Others take much longer.

Some cautions.

Because the spirit world is open to the enemy of God to deceive people, care must be taken in seeking God. Satan and of his demons are only too ready to lead people away from the truth of God. You will not find the true and living God by reading about other religions, or by involving yourself in occult practices, or in the many pseudo spiritual books that are flooding the market place with their satanic lies.

The safest course of action is to get yourself connected with a church that bases all their beliefs on the Bible. Even be careful here, as some do not use the bible in the right way. Well known established Christian groups, where the people's love is obvious, are generally the best bet.

Re-reading.

If any of the chapters in this book need to be re-read, then this would be the time to do it. Earnestly seeking God can include study of this and other Christian books, talking to believers, reading the bible, praying and attending different churches. Making a decision to go God's way is the most important decision you will ever make in your life.

Remember, it is by the grace of God and by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ that you now have this opportunity to become a child of God. Nothing, but nothing, should stand in your way. My prayers will be with every reader of this book, in the blessed hope that you will join the family of God.

Chapter 25

Have fullness of life restored

This chapter could have been called many things. All of the following are what it is about and what it could have been called.

Having the fullness of the spirit of God restored.
Committing your life to Christ.
Making a decision for God.
How to gain eternal life.
Bringing more peace to your life on earth.
Repenting and following

All these things come from the same decision.

=======================================================================================

A summary of all that you have read in this book.

God the creator of all things, sent his son Jesus to earth to teach us how to live. He also sent him to die on the cross for our sins, fully repaying the debt that was owed by every person on earth. Jesus substituted his righteous life for ours and gives every living person the chance to substitute our imperfect life for his. If we choose to do this, we have eternal life and we begin to have fullness of life here on earth. The following four statements summarise this position of Christianity.

The authority of Jesus.

Jesus Christ is the son of God and has showed that he has authority over all things. He has authority over life and death, over nature, over sickness and evil spirits. He has the authority to forgive sin, teach absolute truth and finally, has authority over all people that have ever lived.

The death of Jesus.

The death of Jesus on the cross was and is sufficient for the sins of every person who has ever lived or will live. However, it is clear that his forgiveness is not automatically given to everybody. To gain the benefit of his death on the cross, each person individually must begin to turn away from their sinful ways and ask forgiveness for all past sin. The Holy Spirit empowers them to do this.

The resurrection of Jesus.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead shows us that death and sin are defeated forever. Not being a slave to sin, and having eternal life, are now options for everybody. People who make this step of commitment to Christ will be able to face the coming judgement day with confidence, because of the eternal life gained from their decision for Christ. Jesus Christ has promised that those who confess him now, whilst they are alive here on earth, he will accept in heaven at the day of judgment.

The baptism of Jesus

Jesus himself was baptised in water and was then filled with the Holy Spirit of God. Jesus commanded all believers to do the same. Some churches have traditions that do not include baptism.

What to do next.

If you think that you understand what has been said so far, then you are ready to take the next important steps. It is suggested that you give yourself some quality time, sit down either by yourself or with a trusted Christian friend and go through all of the following. Once you have decided to do this it does not take very long.

Preparation

Please read this first. Have you considered God's law?

You might be surprised!

By way of preparation you will need to read through the following list to check and see that you accept all of the following statements.

  1. That the intent of God's love for you was to save you from eternal death.  "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16 )
  2. That you are a sinner separated from God and that you want to be restored into relationship with Him.  "for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God," (rom 3:23 )
  3. That God's gift for you is eternal life.  "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our lord." (Rom 6:23 )
  4. That to receive God's best you must be born again.   "Jesus answered and said to him, "most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."" "Nicodemus said to him, "how can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?" "Jesus answered, "most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God." "That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the spirit is spirit." (John 3:3-6 )
  5. That God anticipated your need.
"But God demonstrates his own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:8 )
  6. That Jesus is the only way to God.
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6 )
  7. That you will be justified before God, by virtue of the death of Jesus on the cross.
"But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin." (1 john 1:7 )

If you can really accept all these things, then you can proceed with what comes next. If you cannot proceed at this stage, just persevere until you can.

Your commitment

There are two main elements in this.

1. Acknowledging your belief in Jesus and what he has done for you.

If you believe, then speak out an acknowledgment of that belief before God. I also suggest that you include in that a verbalising of the ideas found in the following verses.

"that if you confess with your mouth the lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved." For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Rom 10:9-10 ) "for God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life." (John 3:16 )

2. Repenting of your sin - including a confession of them.

The major sin for confession is not having previously acknowledged Jesus as you Saviour. By doing this you are in effect confessing all the sin in your life. However, if you are weighed down by particular sins, those wrong things you have done and said, then confess those too. Acknowledging them before God removes the sin and guilt from you. If you need to go to someone else to confess your harming of them in word or deed, then do that also. Keep the following verses in mind as your guarantee of forgiveness and assurance of eternal life.

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 john 1:9 )

""Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent," because he has appointed a day on which he will judge the world in righteousness by the man whom he has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising him from the dead." (Acts 17:30-31 )

The results of this commitment by you

1. You now have new life through the Spirit of God.

"But if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his spirit who dwells in you." (Rom 8:11 )

"If a son asks for bread from any father among you, will he give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent instead of a fish? Or if he asks for an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"" (Luke 11:11-13 )

2. You know that your sins are forgiven

3. You have made peace with God.

4. You are a part of God's family here on earth.

5. You have the free gift of eternal life

6. You have God as your heavenly father.

7. You will come to know God's purposes for your life.

8. You will know that what ever happens, your future is safe and secure.

Afterwards

Baptism in water is a symbolic representation of the end of the old life and the beginning of the new. Try to arrange with a church of your choice to baptise you in water. Not all churches may fully believe in or fully understand water baptism, but in the Bible it is a normal and expected part fo the Christian life. Jesus commanded it for all of us. Notice the following verses.

"'and now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptised, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'" (acts 22:16 )

"Then Peter said to them, "repent, and let every one of you be baptised in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit." (Acts 2:38 )

Affirming what you have done.

It is important to immediately affirm what you have done. One way to do this is to read out aloud all the scriptures you have used to become a Christian. That means to use all the scriptures on these pages. It would be a good idea to do this every day for a few weeks. Notice the incredible statements that have been made in the bible about what you have just done. For example:

John 1: 12-13. "... to all who received Him, to those who believed in his name, He gave the right to become children of God children born of God." You are now a child of God.

Ephesians 2:8-9. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith - and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God - not by works, so that no-one can boast.

2 Corinthians 5:17. Therefore,if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come.

John 10:10. I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

One of the most important results of making this decision is that you have now received the Holy Spirit of God which is now residing with you. This means that you have been restored and that the Holy Spirit can now teach you about Jesus, the Father and Himself. What you now read in the Bible will become easier to understand, although you should not expect too much too soon. Learning about these things is a gradual process.

However, the important thing is that you have persevered long enough to make that important step. The next and final chapter will give you some guidelines about what to do next.

Putting it all together

If reading this book has been as exciting to read as it has been to write, then perhaps your curiosity has been aroused. You may even be expectant as to what is coming next.

This section of the book is to help you to put it all together. Part one of the book ( Chapters 1-12) was to help you to see how all your needs may be met in Jesus Christ, whilst Part Two ( Chapters 13-23 ) was to expand your knowledge of spiritual things to help you understand Part One even better. However, this third section of the book is where you need to sum up your attitude to all that has been said and decide what to do about it.

Only three chapters remain in this book. As a whole, these are to provide you with information to enable you to make to make the right decision for God, and to become a believer and follower of Jesus Christ. Even if you do not think this is what you will do about it, read it anyway, as your learning and understanding will increase.

The first of these chapters is to help you with some common problems that happen to some people at this stage of their learning. Firstly, it deals with the putting aside of some human logic that sometimes gets in the way. Secondly, it deals with possible attempts by opposing spiritual forces to get you away from reading this and doing anything about it. Finally, it encourages you to seek God, as this is the only way he can be found.

The second of these chapters is the action chapter. It explains the how of making a commitment to God and provides the right scriptures to help you to do this. The last chapter gives some ideas on what to do when you become a believer. What is now happening with you is only the beginning of a marvellous new journey through the rest of your life. May God be with you as you Escape into life!
