That the Christian life is not all sweetness and light is evident from even a cursory study of scripture. Many of the saints suffered during Gods dealings with them. It seems to be a way of God that He permits and allows suffering of His people in order that they be refined. He does this as an act of His love in order that they can receive more from Him and be more like Him who died for us all.

These verses give considerable guidance in how God's refining fire should be viewed by present day believers as they continue in their walk with the Lord.
