Biblical Prayers - No. 5

J O Y

By the grace of my Lord Jesus Christ received by saving faith in Him in all the Scriptures:

Lord, thank you for wonderful blessing of divine joy. Thank you for exultation in spiritual realities. Thank you for the sheer delight of

sin forgiven and hope of everlasting life through you. Thank you for the ministry of the Holy Spirit, who brings the fruit of godliness into my life, particularly in the form of joy.

Lord, thank you for your own joy in your wonderful vast eternal plan. It was for the joy set before you that you endured the cross and despised its shame for me. Now you delight in the festal pomp of heaven above. Let the joy of the Lord be my strength also.

Lord, I confess that among the evils of the devil's world I do not always rejoice, though this is your plan for me. Help me to anticipate the fullness of joy for evermore right now. It is your plan that we Christians be a happy people. Help me to enter into this by faith, and go on to make each other happy too.

Help me to reckon it all joy when I fall into trial, for victory through trial gives such tremendous opportunity to come through in Christ's Name and to his glory. Undergird me in time of need by the joy of the Lord, which is my strength.

Help me to be quick to see the good which you produce in my fellow Christians, and to rejoice in it, which I confess I do not always do.

Let me delight in your word, that the Scriptures may remain in my heart, that your joy should be in me, and that my joy shall be full.

I remember that you made this offer under the very shadow of Calvary's terrible cross itself.

Lord, let all delight, exultation, praise and honour be ascribed to you, because you built into me the marvellous quality of life called joy, joy unspeakable and full of glory.
