A Christian brother of mine sensed the need for a step-by-step process for those who want to experience sainthood like the alcoholic wants to experience sobriety. He took The Twelve Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous and develped these Twelve Steps for Sinners.

TWELVE STEPS FOR SINNERS

1. I admit that I'm a sinner, born with a rebellious nature. I have no one but myself to blame for my sin. My sin has separated me from God.

2. I came to believe that only God through His Son Jesus Christ can restore the union that was broken because of my sin. This "re-union" with God is the only thing that can bring real peace and sanity to my life.

3. I made a decision to turn my will and my life over to Jesus Christ.

4. I made a searching and fearless moral inventory of the exact nature of my sins.

5. I confessed to God, to myself, and to a trusted brother or sister in Christ, the exact sins I committed.

6. I believe that the blood of Jesus Christ cleanses me of all my sin.

7. I humbly ask Christ to forgive my sin and to walk with me as I seek to grow in His image and in His sainthood.

8. I know that I must first "go and be reconciled with my brother," so I made a list of all persons I had harmed because of my sin, and I prepared to make amends to them all.

9. I made direct amends to all people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.

10. I continue to take personal inventory, and when I have sinned, promptly confess my sin.

11. I sought through prayer, fellowship, meditation, Bible Study, and obedience to God's Word to be filled with the Holy Spirit, seeking to know God's will and delight in it.

12. Having had a spiritual awakening as a result of these steps I will try to the "Gospel" principles in all my life.
